Sporting CP (2002–2003)

Ronaldo made his senior debut for Sporting CP at 17 years old. He scored 5 goals in 31 appearances — a modest start for a teenager. But his performances in pre-season friendlies, particularly against Manchester United, convinced Sir Alex Ferguson to sign him for £12.24 million.

Key stat: All 5 goals came in the Portuguese league. He did not score in European competition during his Sporting days.

Manchester United — First Stint (2003–2009)

Six years at Old Trafford turned a skinny winger from Madeira into a Ballon d'Or winner. Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 games, evolving from a showboating winger into a 42-goal-a-season forward.

His best season came in 2007–08, when he scored 42 goals in 49 games — including 31 Premier League goals — winning the European Golden Shoe and his first Ballon d'Or. He scored in the 2008 Champions League final and added another in the 2009 final, though United lost to Barcelona.

Key stat: 84 of his 118 goals came in the Premier League, with 34 in the Champions League across both United stints.

Real Madrid (2009–2018)

Nine seasons. 438 games. 450 goals. The numbers defy belief.

At Real Madrid, Ronaldo transformed from a great player into an all-time legend. He averaged over a goal per game for an entire decade — a rate unmatched in the modern era by any player playing in Europe's top leagues.

The highlights are dizzying:

  • 2011–12: 60 goals in 55 games — La Liga title
  • 2013–14: 51 goals in 47 games — La Décima Champions League, Ballon d'Or
  • 2014–15: 61 goals in 54 games — his highest single-season total
  • 2015–16: 51 goals in 48 games — another Champions League
  • 2016–17: 42 goals in 46 games — Champions League + La Liga double

He scored 311 La Liga goals in 292 games. He scored 105 Champions League goals for Madrid alone — more than most clubs have scored in the competition's history. He scored 44 hat-tricks in a Madrid shirt.

Key stat: 450 goals in 438 games = 1.03 goals per game. The highest ratio of any player in Real Madrid's history with more than 100 appearances.

Juventus (2018–2021)

Ronaldo joined Juventus in 2018 for €100 million. He scored 101 goals in 134 games — a rate that kept Juventus competitive in Serie A and the Champions League.

He won two Serie A titles and one Coppa Italia. In 2020–21, he won the Capocannoniere as Serie A's top scorer with 29 goals, becoming the first player to finish as top scorer in the Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A.

Key stat: He scored 81 Serie A goals in 98 games — a rate of 0.83 per game in what is statistically the toughest defensive league in Europe.

Manchester United — Second Stint (2021–2022)

The return to Old Trafford was brief and complicated. Ronaldo scored 27 goals in 54 games, including 19 Premier League goals. His hat-trick against Tottenham and his last-minute winner against Villarreal in the Champions League showed the old magic was still there.

But the fit was wrong. The club was in transition, the system did not suit him, and the relationship ended with a mutual termination in November 2022.

Key stat: He scored 6 Champions League goals in 2021–22, including crucial group-stage winners.

Al-Nassr (2023–present)

In January 2023, Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. Critics called it a retirement league. Ronaldo treated it like a challenge.

He has scored 129 goals in 157 games for Al-Nassr as of June 2026, including back-to-back Saudi Pro League Golden Boots in 2023–24 (35 goals) and 2024–25 (33 goals). He led Al-Nassr to the Saudi Pro League title in 2025–26 — his 35th career trophy.

Key stat: He has scored at least 100 goals for four different clubs (Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Al-Nassr) — the only player in history to achieve this.

Portugal National Team (2003–present)

No male player has scored more international goals than Cristiano Ronaldo. His 145 goals in 231 caps for Portugal make him the all-time leader in men's international football — ahead of Lionel Messi (123), Ali Daei (109), and everyone else.

He has scored at:

  • 6 European Championships (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024)
  • 6 World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, 2026)
  • 2 UEFA Nations League tournaments (2019, 2025)
  • 2 FIFA Confederations Cups (2013, 2017)
  • Numerous qualifiers and friendlies

Key stat: He has scored in 11 consecutive major international tournaments — a record no other player has come close to matching.

Data from IFFHS and official match records. Ronaldo and Messi totals as of June 27, 2026.

What Comes Next

At 41 years old, Ronaldo shows no signs of stopping. He has stated his ambition to reach 1,000 career goals before retirement — a milestone no male player has ever reached in top-level professional football. At his current rate of approximately 45 goals per season, he would reach that mark in the second half of 2026.

Whether he gets there or not, the numbers already tell a story that will never be repeated. 975 goals. 1,337 games. 22 years at the highest level. The greatest goalscorer football has ever seen.
